Melissa Dilworth is Board Certified as a Registered Art Therapist and holds a Masters of Science in this discipline from The College of New Rochelle in New York. She has been working as an Art Therapist since 1995 primarily with traumatized children and adolescents. Melissa has also been trained by the National Institute of Trauma and Loss as a Trauma and Loss Specialist and School Specialist. Her experience consists of working with families, individuals and groups in multiple settings including inpatient hospitalization, day treatment, residential treatment and outpatient services.

Julie GowenJulie B. Gowen, M.S.W., L.C.S.W.
Counselor

Affiliated with The Patrician Movement for Substance Abuse Prevention and Treatment since 1984, Julie works with individuals of all ages, couples and families.  As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Julie maintains a philosophy of caring and compassion, coupled with enthusiasm to empower people to look deep within to find their inner strengths and build upon them.  She holds a Masters degree in social work from Our Lady of the Lake University.

Mark JonesMark S. Jones, D.Min., L.P.C., L.M.F.T.

The author of several books and articles on psychological and spiritual approaches to life and therapy, Mark’s approach combines key therapeutic modalities with a facilitation of spiritual development. He utilizes psychodynamic therapy to enable persons to work through intrapsychic blocks to their own fulfillment. Systems theory informs Mark’s treatment of interpersonal issues, such as marriage and family concerns. Using neurofeedback, a way to train and strengthen the brain, Mark treats children, adolescents and adults for ADHD, insomnia, migraines, and mood issues. Furthermore, historic and current spiritual concepts give therapy a foundation rooted in the positive and transcendent meanings of life. Mark has a doctorate in pastoral care and is a licensed professional counselor, marriage and family therapist, board approved LPC and LMFT supervisor, and spiritual director. Mark also has a background in employee assistance services and organizational consulting. His latest book is Dazzling and Divine: A Contemplative Journey in Christ.

Esteban MontillaR. Esteban Montilla, Ph.D., LPC.

Dr. Montilla is an ordained clergyman, a licensed professional counselor and a Latin-American theologian known for his ability in scriptural/psychological integration at both theoretical and practical levels. He received his master and doctoral degree in counseling from Texas A&M University-CC. Dr. Montilla is a Diplomate/CPE Supervisor as well as a board certified pastoral counselor and clinical chaplain with the College of Pastoral Supervision and Psychotherapy (CPSP). He is a pioneer in establishing counseling and pastoral care programs in several Latin American countries, and the architect and director of several of our present Spanish language pastoral offerings. Dr. Montilla is the author of several books including "Viviendo la Tercera Edad" (2004), Family Counseling with Latinos and Latinas (2005), and Pastoral Counseling with Latinos and Latinas (2006) and several articles dealing with various aspects of counseling and pastoral care in multicultural environments. Dr. Montilla is also an assistant professor and coordinator of internship in the Department of Counseling and Human Services at St. Mary’s University.

Catherine PartenCatherine Parten, LCSW-S, Registered Play Therapist - Supervisor
Director of the Child and Family Services

A registered play therapist (RPT) and RPT supervisor, Parten heads up the George H. Wenglein Children and Family Wellness Center. She provides direct care through play therapy, family therapy and parenting skills training with a specialization in psychodynamics and the impacts of relationships and family systems.  With 27 years experience in social work, she holds masters degrees from the University of Texas at Arlington in social work and the University of North Texas in education and is certified as a teacher in the state of Texas. Before joining the Ecumenical Center in 2007, she provided outpatient care for children, adolescents and families at the Southwest Mental Health Center.

Henry PerkinsHenry S. Perkins, M.D.
Consultant, Bioethics

Henry S. Perkins, M.D., the Center’s Consultant in Bioethics, has taught and written about clinical ethics for nearly 25 years. He focuses on end-of-life issues, cross-cultural conflicts, and other ethics dilemmas health professionals face in everyday practice. At the Center, Henry teaches "Ethics for the Clinician," an intensive medical ethics course for advanced physicians in training; and "Ethical Issues in Ambulatory Care," a four-part seminar for geriatrics and primary care interns from The University of Texas Health Science Center. He also involves medical students in his ongoing research about cultural differences in patients’ attitudes about dying. The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio has employed Henry for over 19 years, and he now holds a professorship there.

Daniel ThompsonDaniel Thompson, Ph.D.
Psychologist

Daniel works with a variety of clients, specializing in those with addictions. He is a Licensed Psychologist; listed on the National Register of Health Service Providers in Psychology; Board certified in the Treatment of Alcohol and other Psychoactive Substance Use Disorders; a Board certified Chemical Dependency Specialist; and a Certified Compulsive Gambling Counselor. Daniel supervises the Center’s advanced pastoral psychotherapy trainees in spiritual/psychological integration.
