Ethics in Business Initiative
Mission
The mission of the San Antonio Ethics in Business Initiative is to promote ethical business conduct for the benefit of the workplace, the marketplace, the environment and the community.
The San Antonio Ethics in Business Initiative is a program of the Ecumenical Center for Religion and Health, in collaboration with the UTSA College of Business. The Ecumenical Center presents the San Antonio Ethics in Business Awards in order to:
- Foster a climate of ethical integrity in the community by recognizing ethical practices of businesses, organizations and individuals.
- Promote awareness and educate business students in ethical business practices.
- Heighten awareness in the community of the Ecumenical Center programs and services available to strengthen businesses.
- To support the healing work of the Ecumenical Center and to fund scholarships for UTSA College of Business students.
The Awards
Up to ten honorees are selected from businesses, nonprofits, and individuals that have demonstrated exceedingly high ethical conduct, integrity, and civic responsibility as reflected in their dealings with individuals, businesses, employees and the community. These ten honorees participate in a mentoring project with students at the University of Texas at San Antonio College of Business and are recognized at a special public event in the Spring. At this event, up to five notable and exemplary contributions to the promotion of ethics receive special recognition.
The Process
A public announcement for nominations occurs annually in the summer. Business students in the UTSA College of Business spend approximately 8 – 10 hours over the fall semester interviewing and conducting research with the honorees/CEOs as part of their semester course work. Over 15 additional hours are spent with other key staff. A Selection Committee of community leaders reviews the results of the students’ research and chooses up to five to be specially recognized.
The Event
The Ethics in Business Awards are presented at a dinner event held in the Spring of each year.
The Beneficiaries
Proceeds from the event benefit the Ecumenical Center for Religion and Health to strengthen individuals, families and organizations and the UTSA College of Business to further the study and teachings of ethical business practices.
